Why do we need skin protection on our face?
Sun protection is so important for all skin but especially for mature skin over 50. Wearing a UV protectant is vital. I will admit, until very recently, I was not someone who applied sun protection as part of my skincare routine. I have committed to wearing it daily now. It not only helps with the signs of aging and skin discoloration, it can help protect your skin from skin cancer. Wear your sunscreen.
Even on the cloudiest days, the UV rays can and will hit your skin. Wearing a high SPF ( Sun Protection Factor) will protect you form the UV (Ultra Violet) rays which are what causes the damage. Sunscreen is so important. Wear your sunscreen.
Which sunscreen should I buy?
Sunscreen is a personal choice and dependent on lifestyle, there are a zillion options. Most important, as I have said over and over again,wear your sunscreen. In third place- wear your sunscreen
I tried the Cetaphil Sheer Mineral Sunscreen and was not a fan. Although this gives skin protection from the sun, it felt thick and heavy on my face. I do think it is nice for a day at the beach but not for daily use under makeup. It has great reviews so maybe I am missing something. Sadly, this gets 2 stars from me.
In second place – reminder: So important to wear your sunscreen
Moving on, I wanted to love the Cerave Skin Renewing Day Cream with sunscreen. My expectation for this was high. I love the Skin Renewing moisturiser as I talk about also on my Youtube channel. It is my favorite moisturizer. This was not the daytime equivalent of it though. Feeling hopeful, I gave this a try. Basically it is an SPF with retinol and moisturizer benefits. Again, this was thick and left a white cast over my skin. The product was fine under makeup but felt thick and sticky prior. 4 star rating from me.
Lastly… but NOT least-ly! The sunscreen winner!
Coming in on top is the Innisfree Daily UV Defense. It is incredible. It is smooth and moisture rich. Amazingly it feels like a high end day cream and not at all like a sunscreen product. Importantly, there is no smell and zero white casting. Honestly, it is really enjoyable to apply. This feels great on its own or under makeup. Recommending this is easy. Finally, 5 stars all the way! The price point is great and Innisfree is known for being a clean Korean skincare brand. Wear your sunscreen

After researching the chemicals in sunscreens, it was important to me to find a mineral sunscreen that I liked, instead of a chemical one, mostly because of oxybenzone. I really like the Kinship Self Reflect Probiotic sunscreen. I didn’t feel like it was so greasy and heavy as a lot of mineral sunscreens are, and it didn’t leave a white cast on me. But I am pretty pasty, so it might leave a white cast on others.
