Little Unicorn: Where My Office Has a Palm Tree View

Working remotely for Little Unicorn is like having an office with a palm tree view. I’ve mastered the art of video meetings with the sound of crashing waves in the background. Balancing deadlines and sipping on coconut water while answering emails might sound like a dream, but trust me, it’s a hustle in its own rhythm. It has taken some time but I am in a good rhythm and work feels fulfilling and purposeful.

The Paws and Loss of Oliver: My Remote Work Buddy

Oliver, my four-legged remote work buddy, was the CEO of my home office. Losing him hit me hard even knowing it was coming. Life without him has felt like I am missing part of my heart. I guess I am . He passed away peacefully in my arms in October. He was in no pain and his time came when he was still feeling like he had quality of life. I wanted that for him. The morning after we said goodbye, I hopped on a plane and was off island for 6 weeks. I do not see myself getting a new little buddy. He cannot be replaced. I miss him every single day.

Friends Bailing on the Island Life

One of the quirks of remote island living is the perpetual good byes. Friends come into your life, share coconut drinks, and then poof! They’re off, Zooming into new horizons. You know as soon as you meet someone if they are here for a flash, or here for the long haul. Most mainland people don’t stay long. This life is not for everyone. Dating here is hard ,but that is another post for another day. Life here can feel lonely and isolating if you come with expectations of being the main character in your daydream reality. You have to make a realistic life here. It is not pretend.

Missing Family but I Am Here to Stay..for now

Living in Hawaii is like having a daily dose of Vitamin Sea. I’m soaking it up like sunscreen on a hot day. l miss my family. They are chilling on the mainland while I’m over here sipping coconut water . Life in Hawaii is fantastic, but the family-sized hole in my heart needs a little patching up. I will be traveling a lot more to see family now that I have some freedom with no pup to care for. I need to recharge with hugs from grandchildren ASAP.

The Sunsets

As the sun dips below the horizon, casting a warm glow across the ocean, I find myself on the shore, captivated by the dance of surfers on the waves. Watching them effortlessly navigate the swells feels like a living meditation, a reminder of the joy that comes from life here. Living in the place where I’ve always wanted to be brings a profound sense of happiness and peace to most of my days. The rhythmic sound of crashing waves serves as a backdrop to my contentment, and in those sunset moments, I’m reminded that life’s beauty is not just in the destination but in the serenity found along the journey.
