My Little Dog

My little dog Oliver deserves a little post of his own. Although small, like him, I needed to added a bit about him because he makes living my best life, even better.

Oliver…Ollie..Bubba…Wubs

Let me tell you a little about him! Oliver Wendell Douglas is my 7 lb 8 oz Long Haired Jack Russell Mix. I decided to name him Oliver after the orphan Oliver Twist. Fact.. his full name is based off the Green Acres character for no other reason than that I liked it.

Ollie will be 16 in November and he is doing pretty well for being such an old man. Living his best life in Hawaii has not rid him of having arthritis, gallstones, acid reflux, kidney failure (mild but happening) and anxiety. Medications are helpful and life overall consists of beach days, long walks and lots of love. He is one happy guy.

The Rescue

I adopted Oliver from Heaven Can Wait Pet Society in Las Vegas in 2011. I was in a dog bakery and they came in to meet someone who was interested in adopting him. He was named Pepper at this time which did not fit him at all. The people never showed up and I felt so sad for him. I just had to take him home with me. I fell in love instantly.He had been left behind when the people he was living with decided to move and not bring him. How does anyone leave a dog tied up to a tree and move? thankfully, a neighbor called and had HCW pick him up.

After he was rescued, he did some time in prison. Yes! He was part of their Pups on Parole program. He learned how to leash walk, sit, stay etc. I think it is a great program and I am so thankful they took great care of him until we found each other. People have said that Oliver rescued me more than I rescued him. I agree.

He takes 5 medications daily
He dislocated his hip jumping off the bed
He has had 6 teeth pulled
He has modeled for the Woof print for Little unicorn
His ears get at least 1 comment from a stranger each day

He is just the best

There is so much more to say about Oliver but I want this to just be a small recognition of my little friend. He has been my constant companion since my divorce and I am so thankful for him. He has cuddled with me when I have been sad, he has gone on walks with me when I didn’t feel like going. Having him to take care of has allowed me to still feel needed as my kids have grown up and moved out. The 2 of us have been through so much and he knows me better than anyone really. He hears and sees it all. If he could only talk…

I am so thankful that I brought this little guy home that day. Having him in my life has been good for me. I love him so much and when the time comes, I will miss him immeasurably but I will also know that his life has been happy with me . Giving him a life in Hawaii is the best gift I could give him to thank him for his unconditional love.
